Most colleges have a theater program. It's not hard to get involved. You can also wait until a local theater IS auditioning. You don't have too much of a chance if you were to move to LA with absolutely no acting experience. Also, I would try and get on a soap first. Most stars did. It teaches you a lot rather quickly.

Check your local paper, or the one for the largest city near you. There may be a community theatre group you can join. Often the community college nearby has a drama department. If you're 16 or older, you can usually take college courses while you're still in high school. Or, you can call them and ask what other opportunities there are in your area for leaning how to act.

If there really are no group opportunities, then get some good movies and your imagination going. Pick out one of the movie characters and act right along with him. Choose an actor you admire who has made a name for himself by acting well, like Mel Gibson for example. Say his lines right along with him. Imitation is one of the best ways to learn.

When you *do* find somewhere to actually audition for a theatre production, be prepared. Get some books about stagecraft and learn the terms.

Almost any audition will ask you to give a 1-3 minute monologue, so find several interesting essays about the right length and memorize them. Learn to recite S L O W L Y and enunciate your words so people can understand you from a distance. Practice making eye contact and "becoming" a character by developing his individual gestures and mannerisms.

Learn about stage makeup. Learn how to ballroom dance, take a fencing class, build your upper body strength.

There's so many things you can do to prepare yourself for an acting career. Actors take all kinds of classes all their lives to better their chances of being suitable for a role.

Even if you're never a "lead" actor, a supporting role career can be hugely fulfilling, and oftentimes supporting actors make more in the long run than major players because they're able to do more things.
Do you want to act, just to see yourself on the big screen, or generally just because you love the art or it interests you so much? Many actors, I know who do it for the first category, find little success. ANYWAY

You need to start building up a portfolio, find friends who share the same interest, maybe online.

http://maine.craigslist.org/

Check that out-check tv/film category or talent.

Start networking even online. Get SOME experience, try doing some extra work, just to get your foot through the door, see what its like and network also.

Even if theatres arent auditioning, go there and ask if you can help out backstage and maybe even suggest, your willing to do it for free-just to make friends and watch others and get advice.

Sign up to a free online casting service, do small independant films if you can, anything to start building you resume up. Do films with friends, even convince them to want to film etc, then act with them, remember monologues on your own- you could even put them online or ask your friends to watch, if you cant find a school for now.

Buy books about differne techniques ASWELL as joining a school.

Ok, so...........

Start with anything

NETWORK

build up some sort of resume

NETWORK

surround yourself with the right people

NETWORK

Find an acting school and NETWORK some more.

Also, a little truth about the Film Acting industry. They care less about your actual acting talents, and more about what category you fit in, so work on that- make you something special. If your like the others, or theres nothing special about you-you will find it harder to get noticed.

Hope that helps
Most colleges have theatre programs. If you go to school, you gain experience there because you would take part in the theatre departments productions, and also, your professor will probably bea able to hook you up with a solid agency or audition when you graduate. But you should definately look into the college theatre programs around you. it makes things alot easier... trust me, that's exactly what I'm doing. And I already have 2X the experience that most young people have going into the industry, and My director has already set up 3 auditions for me. Good luck hun.
you're wasting your time trying to find theatres, audtions, etc. if you've never acted. you have to be not even good, but amazing. you ahve no idea how hard it is.
