Towns near Toronto?

My husband and I have lived in the States of all our lives, but we have visited Canada (Stratford to be exact) a few times, and love it there. His job here has a location in Toronto, and we're thinking making the big move next spring.

A few questions...

1. How is the theatre scene in the Toronto area? (I'm a musical theatre actress)

2. We're looking to commute into the city (no longer than 40min pref.) are there any nice, smaller towns/cities outside of Toronto?

3. If anyone has experienced living both in the US and in Canada, what are the key differences in everyday living, if at all?

Thanks! :)

I've tried to answer all of your questions below:

1. We have plenty of theatres, including the Toronto Live Theatre. I'm sure you'll get a job.

2. The three most suitable towns would be Scarborough, *Markham*, or Mississauga. I say this through experience of visiting all the surrounding towns of the heart of Toronto. Markham is very nice ^^

3. I have visited New York City, and i can say that it is much bigger than Toronto Downtown. Although larger, your lifestyle will remain the same. Except for the fact that we have milk in bags (not in cartons) =)

It's really pretty much the same though.

The Toronto Theater scene is quite vibrant.

The surrounding areas are mostly cities however there are some very quaint little boroughs in many of those cities.

There is Mississauga with Port Credit (www.portcredit.ca) That is actually only about 20 minutes from the down town core. Oakville is quite nice as well, very quaint, however can be pricey.

On the other side you have Pickering, Scarborough (yuck), Markham. To the North there is North York, Vaughan.

For easiest access and a quick commute look at the go transit website www.gotransit.ca it will give you a listing of all the little town and their accessibility by rail. Toronto can be a nightmare to commute into, however the train system is very fast, and clean.
Niagara Falls was great, especially the full rainbow that goes over the falls once every several days or so!
I can only answer number 2 since i'm not much of a theatre goer, nor have lived in the States. If you want a smaller community that is one of the fastest growing in Canada and not far west from Toronto, take a look at Milton. It is also located on the GO Transit Lakeshore West train line with direct access to Union Station downtown Toronto, which would be a lot easier commute if you work in the city.
