What's the best city to live in? In VA or elsewhere?

I've been living in L.A. for 11 years now and I'm so sick of paying SO much rent! It's horrible... I pay twice as much rent as other people in other parts of the US, spend more time in traffic, and get paid about the same if not less because I'm spending all my money on rent.... I'm over it! So I've been trying to research alternative places to move to. I was thinking about moving to VA, but I'm open to other states. What I'm looking for... mild climate (warm/hot summers, not much snow or freezing in the winter), discernible seasons, low housing costs, relatively low crime... low cost of living and fun stuff to do nearby (in other words no towns with only one movie theatre and nothing else). I'm not moving til 2009 so no rush.

Martinsburg, West Virginia is good(my sister lives there with her husband and 4 year old). Winchester, VA, Chantilly, VA, Frederick, MD are good as well. My husband and I are actually looking to move down that way(we are currently in NY/born and raised here). There is also Hagerstown, MD and Harrisburg, PA. You can also look in North and South Carolina. Good Luck to you!!
